What rootless means on Dopamine
Dopamine is a rootless, semi-untethered jailbreak. That changes where apps and tweaks can write — and which packages will work.
Rootless in practice
- Classic “rootful” jailbreaks exposed more of the system filesystem.
- Rootless keeps the writable surface smaller for stability and security tradeoffs.
- Many older tweaks must be rebuilt for rootless before they work.
- Expect some classic repos/packages to fail — look for rootless builds.
- After reboot, open Dopamine and jailbreak again (semi-untethered).
Package managers
Dopamine ships with Sileo and Zebra. Prefer packages marked for rootless / modern Dopamine environments.
Semi-untethered
After a reboot, userspace is not permanently patched. Open Dopamine and jailbreak again to restore the environment. This is not a tethered jailbreak that needs a computer every boot.
Removing the jailbreak
Use in-app remove options when available, or restore the device with a computer to return to stock iOS. Back up first.
